Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a topic that SO MANY people have questions about. What do I use? Where do I get it? How long will it last? Do I need trays? Or do strips work just as well?

We are here to answer all of your questions!

How long does teeth whitening last?

When done by a professional, teeth whitening can last anywhere from 6 months to a few years. Professional teeth whitening is an investment in a brighter smile!

Over the counter whitening products are also effective, however the results typically only last a few months.

What is the difference between Professional vs. Over-the-Counter or At-Home treatments?

The main difference is in the concentration of bleaching agents in the products. Typically what you would find at the drug store is a lower concentration that what a trained professional would use.

Will I experience teeth sensitivity?

Yes, teeth sensitivity is common, however it is temporary and will disappear after a few days.

If you are using an at-home product, make sure that your whitening strips are not irritating your gums or sensitive areas in our mouth.

What type of aftercare is required with teeth whitening?

If you look after your teeth post-whitening, your professional treatment should last a long time. Some of our recommendations include:

  1. Avoid any food or drinks that could stain your teeth, for at least 2-3 days post treatment (things like red wine, coffee, and tomato based sauces).

  2. Avoid smoking or chewing tobacco products. These habits will undo your whitening treatment quickly!

  3. Brush your teeth regularly! Use a “whitening” toothpaste.

  4. When reaching for your favourite beverage, use a straw. This prevents staining on your teeth.
